En este artículo traemos el segundo álbum de la banda Triumvirat, Illusions on a Double Dimple.
Triumvirat fue una banda de rock progresivo sinfónico, con una marcada influencia de The Nice, Emerson, Lake & Palmer y compositores clásicos, originaria de Colonia en la entonces Alemania Occidental. Se convirtieron, durante la década de 1970, en una figura clave en el krautrock. El nombre Triumvirat proviene de la palabra latina triunvirato, que se refiere a un grupo de tres individuos poderosos.
Los miembros de la banda original eran Hans-Jürgen Fritz (también conocido como Jürgen Fritz) en los teclados, Werner Frangenberg en el bajo y la voz, y el baterista-percusionista-letrista Hans Bathelt. Sin embargo, esa formación estaría en un estado constante de cambio a lo largo de la carrera de la banda, con cada álbum con al menos un miembro diferente.

La banda fue a menudo criticada por la similitud de su sonido con la banda británica Emerson, Lake and Palmer, algo que los miembros de la banda pueden haber tenido en mente cuando escribieron la canción "Lucky Girl" para su álbum Illusions on a Double Dimple, tal vez en respuesta a uno de los grandes éxitos de ELP "Lucky Man". Al mismo tiempo la mayoría de la gente ama la música genuina que crearon y los arreglos únicos de ese virtuoso tecladista llamado Jürgen Fritz.
La banda se separó en 1980. En 1999 Fritz intentó revivir Triumvirat; Grabaron un nuevo álbum, "Website Story", que permanece inédito.

Tras la publicación de su primer álbum, siguieron actuando por Alemania como en el Rockin' Sunday el 5 de agosto de 1973 y en el German Rock Festival el 15 de septiembre de 1973 y el 2 de marzo de 1974.
En 1973 regresaron al estudio para producir su segundo álbum, Illusions on a Double Dimple con la Orquesta de la Ópera de Colonia, la sección de metales de Kurt Edelhagen y el saxofón de Karl Drewo para la suite Mister Ten Percent, así como un coro compuesto por Ulla Wiesmer, Brigitte Thomas y Hanna Dölitzsch. La grabación se realizó en los estudios EMI-Electrola de Colonia entre junio y octubre de 1973. Durante la grabación Hans Pape dejó la banda siendo sustituido por Helmut Köllen (guitarra, bajo y voz) siendo considerara esta nuevo trio como la formación clásica y más famosa. El resultado es un álbum conceptual sobre la depresión y las relaciones personales.
En 1973 publicaron el sencillo Dancer's Delight / Timothy. Ambas canciones serían grabadas probablemente en las sesiones para el álbum, pero no aparecieron originalmente en él pero si como bonus tracks en reediciones en CD.
El álbum fue publicado en octubre de 1974 en el Reino Unido. Consiguió ser publicado en muchos países incluido Estados Unidos, con lo que la banda ganó renombre internacional.
Tras la grabación estuvieron de gira por Estados hasta final de año como teloneros de Fleetwood Mac. Adjunto una grabación de una actuación en Nueva York y un disco no oficial de grabaciones del tour.

Mi opinión sobre el álbum
La suite de la cara1, si hay que compararla con otras bandas de rock progresivo yo la encuentro más cercana a Genesis, Yes o la Electric Light Orchestra (por el uso de la orquesta). La suite de la cara 2, se puede decir que es más cercana con Emerson, Lake & Palmer, incluso las voces son más parecidas a Greg Lake. Se puede que ya han consolidado su estilo. La música del álbum es compleja y sofisticada, pero al mismo tiempo es dramática, emocionante y hermosa. Lo que más me gusta del álbum son sus pasajes instrumentales.
Sencillos
En 1974 se publicó el sencillo Dimplicity / Million Dollars. Ambos temas eran versiones editadas de las que aparecieron en el álbum. Ambos temas del sencillo se incluyeron posteriormente en las reediciones en CD del álbum como bonus tracks.
