En este artículo traemos el segundo álbum de la banda alemana de krautrock, Birth Control.
La característica de su música son las piezas largas y los interludios solistas de los instrumentos individuales, especialmente los solos de batería. Es conocida por su sonido de hard rock progresivo y portadas de álbumes provocativos (como la de Two Eggs – Two Concerts que representa a una gallina cocinando huevos).

Segundo sencillo
A principios de 1970, para obtener ingresos tocaron como banda de acompañamiento en la gira alemana del cantante Peter Orloff.

Tras ella grabaron su tercer sencillo con los temas Hope / Rollin'. El sencillo fue publicado con el sello Ohr (OS 57 003). Gracias al cambio de sello, consiguieron su primer éxito.

La película Ich – ein Groupie (Yo, una groupie)
Tras el sencillo, la banda protagonizó junto a Murphy Blend, Luke Zane y Pony Poindexter la primera película de la popular actriz alemana Ingrid Steeger, "Ich, ein Groupie - das Mädchen mit dem Einwegticket"! ("Yo, una groupie - la chica con el billete de ida"!).

Hoy en día, la película puede parecer un poco anticuada, pero se ha convertido en objeto de culto. Refleja la actitud hacia la vida de la juventud de esa época y transmite todos las situaciones con autenticidad. Las escenas en las que aparece la banda tocando en vivo son probablemente las grabaciones cinematográficas más antiguas de la banda: aparece el tema "No Drugs" de su primer álbum.
La película Gebissen wird nur nacht - The Vampire Happening
En el mismo año, la banda voló a la frontera austro-húngara para tocar en la película de vampiros "Gebissen wird nur nacht - The Vampire Happening". Esta película también ha sido lanzada en DVD (incluso en alemán). En realidad, una película B cursi, pero, de obligada visita.
Grabación del segundo álbum
El segundo álbum que se titularía Operation se grabó en febrero de 1971 en el estudio Ariola de Berlín. La producción corrió a cargo de Didi Zill.
Lanzamiento del segundo álbum
El álbum fue lanzado en 1971 con Ohr en Alemania (OMM 56.015). En los Países Bajos fue publicado con Negram (NQ 20018). Fue publicado inicialmente con una carpeta desplegable. El diseño de la portada fue de Heinz Dofflein. Algunas tiendas de discos se negaron a venderlo porque la portada mostraba al Papa junto con un monstruo devorador de bebés.

El sencillo The Work Is Done / Flesh And Blood
El álbum fue promocionado con el sencillo The Work Is Done / Flesh And Blood. Las pista de la cara A del sencillo es una versión recortada de la incluida en el álbum.
Como parte de esa promoción actuaron en el programa Beat Club de la televisión alemana el 25 de septiembre de 1971.
Reediciones
Fue publicado en CD por primera vez en Alemania en 1992. En 1997 fue publicado en CD con 5 bonus tracks que son pistas publicadas en sencillos.
Opinión personal
Consiguen un sonido más consistente que en su primer álbum, manteniendo el tono duro, menos psicodélico y más progresivo. El sonido del órgano Hammond se vuelve más predominante, lo que nos recuerda a los primeros E,L & P, Uriah Heep o Deep Purple. El álbum comienza con Stop Little Lady que me recuerda a Deep Purple. Just Before The Sun Will Rise es más melódica acercándose al progresivo gracias a los teclados, la que más me gusta del álbum. The Work is done es una canción contra la guerra del Vietnam, manteniendo el tono psicodélico del primer álbum. Flesh and Blood sigue el tono de la anterior. Pandemonium tiene un buen trabajo de órgano a nivel de los grupos citados. Y el álbum termina con Let Us Do It Now, una pieza larga de rock progresivo incluida orquestación.
