New Trolls fue una banda de rock italiana formada en 1967 y activa hasta 1998.

En este artículo continuamos su historia hasta la publicación de su álbum Searching for a Land en 1972.
A lo largo de su carrera, el grupo ha pasado del beat al rock progresivo y luego al pop rock a finales de los setenta, manteniendo algunas de las características distintivas del rock progresivo, como los arreglos elaborados, el virtuosismo técnico de las interpretaciones y el canto polifónico muy estructurado.
En septiembre de 1971 publican el sencillo La Prima Goccia Bagna Il Viso. con una parte en cada cara correspondiente a su participación en la Muestra Internacional de Música Ligera de Venecia de 1971.
Actuación en el programa de televisión Senza rete.
En julio de 1972 los New Trolls realizaron una actuación en vivo en el programa de televisión Senza rete, junto con la orquesta de Pino Calvi.
Club de fans
En 1972 nació el primer club de fans del grupo, con sede en Turín, en Corso Ferrucci 72. Fue uno de los primeros clubes de fans italianos (en ese momento la palabra "fan" aún no era de uso común); Todavía activo, también es uno de los clubes de fans más antiguos de Italia.
Cambios
En 1972 D'Adamo dejó el grupo, reemplazado por Frank Laugelli. Maurizio Salvi también se convirtió en miembro permanente de los New Trolls durante este período.

En 1972, New Trolls lanzó dos álbumes. El primero de ellos, Searching for a Land, es un álbum doble integramente en inglés, quizás buscando la promoción internacional.
El primer disco contiene canciones de rock progresivo, grabadas en el estudio, mientras que el segundo presenta canciones de hard rock, también grabadas en el estudio pero en directo y con ruidos de audiencia sobregrabados, para simular un álbum en vivo.
La letras de la canción To Edith está tomado del poema del mismo nombre que Bertrand Russell escribió para su esposa Edith Finch.

El primer LP es un mezcla de los barroquismos del romanticismo veneciano con el Renacimiento italiano, con melodías melancólicas, algunas atmósferas psicodélicas y partes acústicas y algún momento de jazz. Mauricio Salvi muestra su habilidad con los teclados incluyendo melotrón y sintetizador moog.
El segundo LP aunque con referencias a la música clásica barroca tiene una base de rock duro con voces poderosas y ásperas, grandes solos de guitarra, gran uso de la flauta, poderoso órgano Hammond, buen bajo sólido y batería contundente.
Grabación
Las grabación se realizó en los estudios Fonit-Cetra de Milán bajo la supervisión del ingeniero de sonido Plinio Chiesa. Aunque en el bajo aparece acreditado Frank Laugelli, una reedición del álbum, fechada en 1977 (Double Music-Cetra DPU 70), acredita la participación de Giorgio D'Adamo en las canciones Bright Lights y Muddy Madalein.

Al final no hubo una publicación internacional. En España fue publicado en 1977 tanto en doble casete como en doble álbum.
Fue publicado por primera vez en un solo CD en 1991. La edición de 1996 también incluyó el álbum Concerto grosso n. 2 de 1976. En 2009 fue publicado en CD remasterizado.
En 1984 fue publicado en Japón en vinilo.
