El anterior artículo lo dedicamos a los tres sencillos The Moody Blues que el grupo publicaron en 1965.
En este artículo continuamos su historia a partir de 1966 hasta el final de la primera formación de los Moody Blues con la salida de Warwick y Laine. Comentamos sus últimos sencillos que pronosticaban un segundo álbum que no llegó a publicarse.

Tras el poco éxito con sus tres sencillos publicados en 1965 en el Reino Unido, a principios de 1966 no se atrevieron a publicar otro sencillo allí. Pero en enero de 1966 publicaron un sencillo en Francia con el tema Bye Bye Bird en la cara A y el tema I'll Go Crazy en la cara B que ya habían sido publicado en su primer álbum. El sencillo alcanzó el tercer puesto en las listas francesas. En Estados Unidos se publicó en cambio con el tema Stop! en la cara A y Bye Bye Bird en la cara B. No llegó a las listas. Dado el éxito en Francia se publicó un EP con los temas del sencillo más Stop! y And My Baby's Gone, ésta última había aparecido como cara B en un sencillo publicado en Reino Unido y en el álbum de la versión americana pero no había sido publicado antes en Francia.
Finalmente, la rutina de recorrer camino sin éxito acumula las tensiones que enfrentaba el grupo y esto es demasiado para Warwick, que sale de la banda y deja la música en la primavera de 1966.Fue reemplazado brevemente por Rod Clark (nacido el 23 de noviembre de 1942, en Surlingham). En junio de 1966 publican el sencillo Boulevard De La Madeleine en Estados Unidos, quizás precipitadamente por la salida de Warwick. En la cara B se incluía el tema This Is My House (But Nobody Calls). En Francia se publica en formato EP adicionalmente con los temas Life's Not Life y People Gotta Go.
A principios de octubre, Denny Laine también se fue del grupo, haciendo pensar a Decca que los Moody Blues se estaban desintegrando y publicaron el sencillo en el Reino Unido el 7 de octubre. Después de salir de The Moody Blues, Denny formó la banda String Electric, formada por Denny (guitarra, voz), Trevor Burton (guitarra, exmiembro de The Move) y Viv Prince (batería), también con sonidos de cuerdas electrificadas en un formato no muy diferente al posterior de Electric Light Orchestra. En 1971 se unió a Paul McCartney para fundar el grupo Wings.
Clark que se había unido provisionalmente a los Moody Blues deja el grupo y se une a The Rockin' Berries.
En la edición de noviembre de 1966 de Hit Week, los entrevistadores holandeses Hans van Rij y Emie Havers comentaron que Moody Blues había estado en el proceso de grabar su segundo álbum, que se iba a titular Look Out, con Cordell en la producción. La salida de Laine abortó su publicación.

A pesar de que Laine ya se había ido y no lo podría interpretar en vivo, se programó el lanzamiento de un último sencillo en Reino Unido el 13 de enero de 1967. En la cara A incluía el tema "Life's Not Life" de Pinder-Laine que ya había sido incluido en el EP en Francia y en la cara B el tema "He Can Win". El sencillo fue publicado en Reino Unido y en Países Bajos. En algunos sitios, el sencillo consta como cancelado aunque las copias existentes indican lo contrario.
