Los formación de Amon Düül II por aquel entonces era: Chris Karrer (violín, guitarra, saxofón, guitarra de 12 cuerdas, voz), Peter Leopold (batería, piano), Falk Rogner (órgano y sintetizadores), John Weinzierl (guitarras, piano, voz), Lothar Meid (bajo) y Renate Knaup (voz).
En este artículo nos ocupamos de su actividad durante 1973 con los álbumes Utopia y Vive La Trance.
Antes de comenzar con dichos álbumes, os traigo primero el álbum grabado en vivo Live in London durante la extensa gira de 1972. El álbum sería publicado en 1973 también.

En 1973, el productor de Amon Düül II, Olaf Kübler, desarrolló un proyecto paralelo a la banda que denominó Utopia con el que lanzó un álbum homónimo ese año con United Artists Records (UAS 29438 I). El proyecto paralelo parece que se debió a una división entre los miembros del grupo, pero hubo una rápida reconciliación y el proyecto Utopía fue abandonado y cuando el álbum fue reeditado en 1982 lo hizo como un álbum titulado Utopia acreditado a Amon Düül II.

Álbum de transición hacia un rock más convencional conservando parte de su sonido más psicodélico, recomendado para los amantes del rock progresivo.

Vive La Trance, teniendo en cuenta el álbum anterior, se convertirá en el séptimo álbum de Amon Düül II publicado ese mismo año 1973 con United Artists Records (UAS 29 504 I). El título es un juego de palabras de la exclamación Vive la France! con la palabra Trance. Da la casualidad que la música Trance de los 90 tiene sus antecedentes en el krautrock.
Producido por Olaf Kübler y Amon Düül II y diseñado por Peter Kramper, Vive La Trance fue grabado y remezclado en Bavaria Studios con remezclas adicionales realizadas en Union Studio München. La fotografía de la carátula del álbum fue realizada por Falk U. Rogner y Gena Zimmerman, con diseño adicional y arte de Jürgen Rogner.

Reseña de Nick Burton en AllMusic: El extraordinario álbum de 1973 de Amon Düül ll encuentra a la influyente banda alemana de art rock trabajando sorprendentemente bien en un formato de canción corta mientras sigue estampando la música con su sonido único. "Fly United", "Trap" y "Ladies Mimikry" muestran diversos estilos de pop y rock que corren felices entre sí con resultados memorablemente peculiares. La instrumentación aquí también es tan peculiar como siempre, tal vez incluso más de lo habitual, con el violín y el saxo de Chris Karrer tocando ahora en primer plano. Las melodías son a menudo brillantes.

Mi opinión sobre el álbum
El álbum es una transición hacia un rock más convencional con un alejamiento del rock progresivo y del cósmico. Mantienen los aires psicodélicos en algunos temas. Se encuentran atisbos de proto-punk.
